Junior Hockey Team – Leinster League Title
Congratulations and well done to all the Junior Team who reached the Junior C Leinster League Final on the 9th March 2010. The team played 8 matches to reach the final and held an unbeaten record throughout the league. It was a tense build up to the final with an exciting quarter-final match against Old Alexandra College, winning 1-0 and an even closer semi-final match against Muckross College, winning 3-2 on the final whistle!
The final was played in sunny conditions in the Leinster Hockey Grounds, Grange Road, Rathfarnham against Mount Anville. It was another tense and exciting match to the last whistle but the better team won on the day. The final score was 2-1, with two brilliant goals scored by Aoife Nolan and Hannah Kelly. Despite a few injuries along the way the whole team were simply superb. It was a wonderful team performance with each team member making a great contribution.
The Leinster title is a great achievement for St. Mary’s, Glasnevin. This is the first time to win a Leinster Hockey title and we are delighted to finally see our name on a Leinster Hockey trophy. We are really looking forward to continued success and many years playing on our new Astro and hopefully keep our name on the trophy for another few years.
What a team! Well done and thanks to all the wonderful supporters cheering us on!
With our new Astro pitch and such talented players, the future of hockey is bright. We highly recommend everyone to take part and join next year.
