Two Pianos added to the Music Department

Music1

In March this year the music department was given an upright “Ring” Piano (above) from Mrs. Frances Blackburn, a former secretary in the school. The piano had been in her family since she was a young girl and it was much loved by her family over the years. The piano was transported and installed in the music room and it will be a great asset for our music students. A huge word of thanks to Frances for this very kind donation. It is much appreciated by all in the music department.

During the Junior and Leaving Certificate practicals hundreds of pieces are accompanied for music students, with the result that Ms. O’Rourke and Mr. Coll play pieces in a variety of different keys for each student. “Transpose” is a function on digital pianos which is an excellent asset when playing in different keys as it allows the key to be changed on the piano itself in the function menu on the inbuilt screen. Over the past few years we have fundraised at the annual music showcase in order to buy a new digital piano for the music room. So with some of these funds we invested in a new “Roland HP507 Digital Piano” pictured above. This piano is also compatible to USD link up to a computer and iPad users and it will be a great asset for students in the area of Music Technology. A huge thank you to everyone who has supported the music showcase over the years. Without this support this would not have been possible.
