St Mary’s Hockey – Northside League Finals 2017

On Wednesday 15th March, St Mary’s took part in the Northside League Finals in AlSAA Sports Grounds. Our Junior and Senior teams both took on St Wolstan’s, Celbridge. Both the nerves and excitement were high with both teams.

The Senior game started well for St Mary’s with the first score of the game after 2 minutes by Kirsty Conner. St Wolstans fought back and had some dangerous counter attacks. However, St Marys defence kept them out. Our goalkeeper Chanice Dolan had some immense saves to make also which kept the goals out for St Marys.

Both teams had various other chances with St Wolstan’s fighting back and some strong play. The midfield and defence having some really good passing and play. The team worked their hearts out to continue to put pressure on St Wolstan’s throughout the game. The final whistle blew with the score 1-0 to St Mary’s.

Our goalkeeper Chanice Dolan again was outstanding and had some immense diving and saves off the line.  It was a nerve wrecking match for spectators and coach alike, with end to end play and many near misses.  However, neither team could get on the scoreboard.  After full time the match went to 10 minutes of extra time.  Again, there was no score, but again some near misses, to the full time whistle.  The team then faced a penalty shoot out!  The team were very confident and took on the challenges. Our goalkeeper Chanice was fantastic again, saving all five penalties from St Wolstans.  We finally won 1-0 with a penalty goal from Captain Leah Harris.
