St Mary’s Celebrates Margaret Alyward

On Thursday 11th October we celebrated the foundress of the Holy Faith Order Margaret Aylward who died on that day in 1889 aged 79 years. She was an indomitable woman who followed her beliefs through her life, no matter what opposition she encountered on the way.
Every student and staff member received a specially designed bookmark as a memento of our Foundress. The bookmark explains Margaret Aylward’s mission to provide education for poor children in Dublin. Members of the Ember team took the opportunity to address the whole school over the intercom during tutor time and concluded with a prayer shared with all the school community.
We are thankful for the foresight and resilience of Margaret Aylward, and endeavour to emulate her in our daily lives.Image-1-12
